700,000 people arrive at the Grand Central Terminal every day. A group of 14 additional visitors arrived today: Boyle Software had picked the terminal as the location for its annual winter company event. Guided by Joyce Gold, who already had shown us the historically important spots in the Greenwich Village in 2005, the group walked through the monumental Grand Central Terminal building while Joyce revealed the passion, hope, disaster and triumph behind its marble grandeur.
Unbelievable that New York's spirit of Destroy & Rebuild almost sealed the fate of Grand Central three decades ago: a decision of the Supreme Court in 1978 was needed to preserve Grand Central Terminal's landmark status and prevent developers from demolishing the building and replacing it with a six-million-square-foot office tower.
