Chelsea Alliance Defeats ConEdison Substation Plans
Boyle Software teamed up with the Chelsea Alliance, a local community group in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York's Manhattan borough, to oppose ConEdison's plan to build a nine-story substation on the corner of 24th Street and Sixth Avenue. After eighteen months of debate, protests and public hearings, the city's Board of Standards and Appeals finally rejected ConEdison's application for a variance and special permit to build the substation.
Boyle Software built and donated a web site for the Chelsea Alliance to help the community group get organized, solicit members and publish the latest news of their causes. In addition to building and hosting the web site, Boyle Software also setup various moderated and unmoderated email lists, made financial donations and hosted many of the community group's meetings.
Sylvia Lachter, President of the Chelsea Alliance said, "we're all extremely grateful for the extraordinary contribution [Boyle Software] made to winning this victory. Having the website made us legitimate, was a wonderful resource for information and of course having the email list was crucial to getting the information out to everyone."
